MAHLE Modular Hybrid Powertrain

The new MAHLE Modular Hybrid Powertrain (MMHP) provides a realistic, scalable solution for a high efficiency, series and parallel hybrid powertrain for a wide range of vehicle applications.

The MMHP incorporates a turbocharged gasoline IC engine, traction motor, generator, inverters and bespoke transmission (with 1,2 or 4 speeds) in a compact, fully integrated package.

The performance of the electric drive within the MMHP reduces the demands for the combustion engine, enabling the development of a cost-optimized 'Dedicated Hybrid Engine' (DHE). The 2- or 3-cylinder engine has been designed specifically for hybrid applications and features many of MAHLE's latest innovations, including passive MAHLE Jet Ignition® (MJI).

The traction motor is directly connected to the wheels to provide full vehicle dynamic performance whilst the engine is de-coupled allowing it to run in a limited speed / load range for optimised fuel economy and low CO2 emissions.

This dual-mode configuration allows the vehicle to operate in a number of different series or parallel modes according to driving speed and battery state of charge.

The engine, motor and HV battery can all be easily scaled for different outputs to cater for a wide range of vehicle applications from B- to J-segment across multiple platforms.

The MAHLE Modular Hybrid Powertrain offers many advantages over existing hybrid technologies including scalability, reduced weight, easier packaging, low NVH, increased fuel efficiency, lower emissions and lower production costs.
