A new technology for ultra lean, low NOx combustion will be presented by Dr Bernd Mahr (CEO, MAHLE Powertrain) at this year's Vienna Symposium (26 / 27 April). The paper will focus on the application of a high energy Turbulent Jet Ignition (TJI) system to gasoline engines resulting in improved fuel economy, higher thermal efficiency and enhanced knock resistance.

The benefits of higher compression ratio and synergies with downsized, boosted engines will also be examined.
