A new charging point for electric vehicles was unveiled at MAHLE Powertrain’s Northampton headquarters last week. Supporting our focus on low carbon vehicle technologies, the charging point is now available for the use of customers and other guests who wish to replenish the battery in their EVs and plug-in hybrids whilst visiting the site.

Members of the local media were also present and were shown the MAHLE Range Extender demonstrator vehicle. Everyone was very impressed with the car’s battery electric operation combined with the on-board gasoline powered generator.
Russell Hookey of ITV Anglia news said during his broadcast, “The transition between purely battery power and the car being charged up with its on-board generator is virtually silent. The only thing you notice as you’re driving along is that the rev counter begins to move as the petrol engine kicks in.”

The local newspapers also attended the event, including the Northampton Herald and Post who ran the headline ‘New electric charging point in Northampton’. Click here to view their article [PDF; 278 KB]
