Combustion system development
Diesel combustion system design and development is a complex interaction of chemistry, aero and thermodynamics. In order to meet the increasingly stringent emission and fuel consumption targets worldwide, optimised flexible system architectures are being developed. Our Approach
MAHLE Powertrain's approach to combustion system development is backed up with the expertise of being in the 'heart of the combustion' with MAHLE's products for more than 80 years. Using advanced design, FEM (finite element methods) and CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulation tools, along with DoE (design of experiments) and our proprietary integrated data acquisition and analysis tool set, enables us to develop optimal solutions within the infinitely large range of options modern diesel combustion architectures offer.
Given the customer specific requirements and application, the combustion system can either be optimised towards:
- Highest specific output
- Maximum reliability, durability and system robustness
- Maximum modularity/highest flexibility
- Emission compliance and best fuel economy as inherent prerequisites
