Alternative fuels from renewable resources (2nd generation bio-diesel) offer the potential to reduce both well-to-wheel CO2 emissions and the dependence on crude oil reserves.


Our Approach

MAHLE Powertrain's approach is based on detailed experience in the development considerations, which are necessary to account for changes in performance, durability, fuel economy and emissions as well as durability of diesel engines running with Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME, aka 1st generation bio-diesel). By optimising the entire engine and aftertreatment system to run on bio-diesel, MAHLE Powertrain's approach allows to offset some of the inherent drawbacks of running lower calorific value graded fuel with benefits in the exhaust gas aftertreatment.
